The Red House Harris – Self Catering Cottage on the dramatic Isle of Harris, in the Scottish Western Isles.

The Red House, or Tigh Dearg, recently renovated from a traditional stone cottage and is now a perfect getaway for two.

The cottage stands alone in a peaceful position which is central to Harris and the whole of the Western Isles.

A warm welcome awaits you here at the Red House. A basket of complimentary supplies including local fresh provisions and something suitably sparkling, in a fully equipped kitchen/dining area. The open plan sitting room features a multifuel stove to lend a little atmosphere as the evening draws in.

If the Hebridean weather encourages you to stay in we have provided wifi, radio, tv and DVD player, a collection of DVDs and a reclining sofa! We have supplied a selection of local interest books and maps. In the slate lined, shower, wet room, we have merged mod.cons with traditional style. You will find fluffy towels on the heated towel rail and underfloor heating.

What once was attic space is now a mezzanine floor, surrounded by handcrafted iron railings. There is a comfortable sitting area with beautiful views from the roof windows, and a king sized bed with quality linen.

For days out or just roaming the hills we have provided a picnic basket for your use. There is also a rechargeable torch for any night forays, perhaps to the pub, about 20 minutes walk away.

Local Area

Tarbert is the main community on Harris and is 5 minutes drive away. The Car Ferry port, Tarbert has a grand mountain backdrop and is home to a selection of shops, restaurants and bars.

Luskentyre (Losgaintir) beach with its stunning turquoise water and prisitine white sands is 15 minutes drive away.

Closer by, watch the local seal population as they bask on the rocks below the house. The cottage is ideally located for walkers and cyclists, surrounded by scenery and central to Harris, as well as the whole of the Western Isles. The isolated situation together with the ambiance, we have created, with many hand crafted fixtures and fittings and artistic touches, make it ideal for a romantic break or honeymoon.
