After this adventure back in 1997 I began to work as a guide, leading trips on behalf of many companies, on trekking expeditions throughout the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Kilimanjaro, Peru the Inca Trail Italy, Amalfo Coasr, Cuba and the Andes of Chile and Argentina.
My endless passion for Patagonia, hiking, biking, horse riding and adventure became contagious so in 2011 I decided to put all my experience and knowledge into one package and founded Patagonia Trails which is based in Puerto Varas, Chile.

A full day spent exploring the corners of this magnificent lake. The third biggest of South America, and the second of Chile with 330 sq miles. It is situated in the southern Los Lagos Region in the Llanquihue and Osorno provinces. The lake's fan-like form was created by successive piedmont glaciers during the Quaternary glaciations.
The last glacial period is called Llanquihue glaciation in Chile after the terminal moraine systems around the lake. We will enjoy unique views from the Volcan Osorno introducing us to the peaceful rhythm of a laid back life.

This day hike is offered to people that enjoys walking in the forest while not really needing to hike strenuously. These trails were used on old days to smuggler cattle between Chile and Argentina and is one of the most important trails used by the locals who live in the valley of Cochamo. The whole trek last for about 6 hours and depending on the people’s pace.
Chance to see the wonderful mountains surrounding, incredible flora, fungus, lichens, fresh air, silence and relaxed pace.I wouldn’t recommend this hike for people with vertigo since a hanging bridge must be crossed which can be a bit tricky. The drive is one of the most scenic in the region with mountains, rivers, lakes Valdivian forest and sea.
The trail runs up the side of the Cochamó River sometimes losing site of the river itself but never the sound of the water cascading down huge waterfalls and gorges. As you get deeper and deeper in the valley, the granite walls grow larger and larger as you become encased in a beautiful, pristine forest that is full of towering alerce trees that can live up to 1,000 years.

What I liked most of this hike is that provides with a rich insight of the unspoilt environment of the temperate forest. This private park called after a bird ( Tagua Tagua) is part of a concession made from the government to the Universidad Mayor. Encompass a rich variety of trees, fungi birds and with a limited amount of visitors per day ensures that the trails are not eroded but well kept.

We depart early in morning from Puerto Varas to Petrohué on the shores of Todos Los Santos Lake. On our way to the lake, we’ll pass through areas that are the mouths of the rivers which flow from the sides of Osorno Volcano. On warm days, it is possible to see what appear to be dust clouds arising from the flanks of the volcano. In reality, these are ash clouds raised by the flowing waters making their way down the flanks of the volcano. We will cross vast areas of black ash mixed with the lashes from the Calbuco eruption in 2015 and have been brought down by the glacial melt.
You will appreciate the might of the volcano as you see the results of the ash flows experienced during its eruptions. One can only imagine what it must have been like during its periods of activity.
